Electrotherapy Human Factors Evaluation
The Challenge:
- Provide speech therapists with a comfortable, easy-to-use probe for post-stroke vocal (intra-oral) electrotherapy
- Establish functional, usability, and form factor requirements for a new universal probe
- Develop design concepts and models for a new universal probe product
The Approach:
- Observe electrotherapy in a stroke rehabilitation hospital
- Interview experienced speech therapists regarding electrotherapy probe requirements
- Evaluate existing electrotherapy products
- Consult with engineers and designers from The Chattanooga Group
- Identify Human Factors and Industrial Design requirements for the universal probe
- Develop Human Factors and Industrial Design concepts for the new probe
- Build foam design prototypes of the most promising concepts
- Evaluate concepts and Human Factors requirements with engineers and designers
The Result: Provided workable concepts for a new universal electrotherapy probe and a complete description of the human factors and industrial design requirements for such a product.
