Finding a Better Fit

The Challenge: Evaluate and improve the current control and seating layout for wheeled-platform mowers and provide the optimal ergonomic experience.

The Approach:

• Evaluate the existing platform as well as competitive wheeled platforms in the lawn & garden sector
• Establish anthropometric guidelines to accommodate a range of users including the 5th-percentile female and the 95th-percentile male
• Apply anthropometric data for the control layout as well as the operator's seat and foot deck
• Work with designers, human factors specialists, and design engineers to develop a full-scale functional model incorporating all the anthropometric and ergonomic guidelines.
• Provide dimensions for a full-scale prototype to be applied in final product development

The Result: A full-scale, functional model and design specification outlining the optimal control and seating layout for next-generation mowers.
