Amerock
Beauty behind closed doors
The Challenge: HumanCentric’s goal when working with Amerock, a division of Newell Rubbermaid, is to create innovative, mechanized storage solutions for home cabinetry.
The Approach:
- Conducting in-depth ethnographic research in a sampling of homes in multiple geographic markets
- Expose unmet needs and consumer preferences in the market
- Conceptualize unique form factors and new mechanisms
- Validate new ideas for storage in kitchens and baths
- Collaborate with Far East suppliers in order to develop a patented mechanism that assists the user to raise-up the trash bin without baring the weight of the trash
The Result: The resulting product line of 3 under-cabinet waste bins established a visual branding for organizational systems to follow and is being sold to OEMs throughout the country. Of particular interest was the design of a raise-up trash bin system that enables a user to lift a trash can to be even with a countertop for easy clean-up during cooking.
