Commodore Cane

Walk Tall

The Challenge:Human Centric saw an opportunity to infuse design and fashion sensibilities into an otherwise sterile assistive medical device. Canes can be useful tools to anyone from aging baby boomers to injured soldiers returning to civilian life. We set out to design a cane that has as much style as is prevalent in current watches and footwear.

The Approach:

  • Investigate the current spectrum of canes available on the market today while looking at trends in fashion accessories.
  • Design an aesthetic cane that compliments these accessories while adhering to ergonomic and manufacturing requirements.
  • Validate design concepts with physical prototypes that can be held and used.

The Result:The Commodore Cane looks like it should be sold along side fashion accessories in Macy’s rather than a medical supply store. This is a cane that anyone would be proud to use.
