Andrew Wirtanen
Human Factors Specialist

My very first class in college was an introduction to Human Factors. When I stepped in the class and sat toward the back (but not too far back), I honestly had no idea what I was getting into. I entered college with the intention of making intangible things on electronic devices, but I learned quickly that there's more than code and Adobe Photoshop. I left graduate school with a passion for not only making things, but making things more useful and usable.
Since joining HumanCentric, I have worked on mobile phone interaction design and research, handheld computer/netbook evaluation and website evaluations. I have experience with usability testing, heuristic evaluations, interviews, surveys, card sorting, focus groups, and consolidating usability feedback from online sources. I have a deep interest in new technologies and I subscribe to many blogs, podcasts, and email lists. In the past, I have developed websites, built databases, configured networks and repaired computers.
Someday, you will probably see me:
- Trying to go to every major and minor league baseball park in the country
- Playing with new gadgets in the Apple store, the week they are released
- At RDU, occupying one of the seats near a power outlet
- Struggling on a softball field or golf course, but still having fun
